Join us for our regular dinner meeting on Wednesday, January 25, 2012!
The keynote presentation of the evening is Developing a New PM Methodology with Don Tolson, PMP.
We’ve all been through the various courses on PM methodologies – PMBoK, Agile, DPSM, Scrum, etc. But what do you do when your client wants their OWN methodology?
Don will take you through the journey of one of BC’s major utilities as the IT department searches for a new way of managing themselves, their clients and their projects.
About Don Tolson, PMP
Don Tolson is a Senior Solution Architect/Project Manager with over 35 years of experience in the design, development and implementation of complex, mission-critical information systems. Don has extensive experience in the architecting and management of solutions dealing with highly sensitive data within complex security requirements. He’s capable of managing large projects and programs -- including strategic planning and budgets; as well as managing technical staff and addressing personnel issues.
Don has been actively managing projects for 20 years, including clients from the Private Sector and almost every Ministry within the BC Government. He brings a practical, business-focused approach to using technology to develop solutions which provide client capability.
PMI-VI has benefited from his long-standing commitment to our Chapter's CEPS program, where students preparing for their PMP/CAPM certification exam are fortunate to have Don as a facilitator, graciously sharing his PM knowledge and expertise.
The power of volunteerism: project management in action
In addition to our main presentation of the evening, Bob Prenovost, the Founder and Program Director of pm-volunteers.org will present an overview of the pm-volunteers.org initiative.
Overview
This presentation will highlight how project managers can use their professional training, experience and network to help community non-profit and charitable organizations deliver outstanding projects on time and on budget. It will also reveal how skilled volunteerism can benefit project managers with their professional development goals and enhance their career path.
Bob will share his personal perspective as a volunteer project leader and demonstrate how giving back to the community as a skilled volunteer is truly a rewarding opportunity for the volunteer, the not for profit organization and a host of other community partners and stakeholders.
About Bob Prenovost
